RE: gas mileage guestimate

we have the truck and trailer in our signature, coming home from Arizona we averaged 10mpg. If its windy, it drops to 8.8mpg. We have gotten 11-12 on very flat terrain and perfect weather conditions. We came home on April 2, the newest visa bill says we charged 1200.00 in diesel.Of course the diesel was cheaper a month ago..LOL..Dona

RE: to 5er from a tt or not?

we went from TT to 5'er last spring. Lots of storage in the basement for all our stuff-or should I say hubbys stuff, i got to put in one lawn chair!LOL. We have an ATV, and it could no longer be hauled in the truck bed. We go to Arizona in the winter, so we hired a trucking company to ship it down for us..and we bought a garden shed for our rental lot and just left it there, locked up..we still can haul a few things in the truck bed. There is lots of storage room inside the trailer..I just love the 5th wheel, and probably would not go back to the TT. With a king bed and mega drawer space and closets, its awesome. We also have a full size closet at the main door(its prepped for washer, so again, lots more space..hope this helps. Dona

RE: a beginner needs advice!!!!

up in that area, when they say no trucks over a certain footage-believe them..some of the mountain roads are real SCARY. Leaving Phoenix on I-17 heading north is all up-hill, really up hill. Make sure that rv has enough coolant and good brakes, cause going back to Phoenix is all down hill on i-17..Have a great time and enjoy..the views are fabulous! Dona

RE: Why worry about high fuel costs? 3 tips for free diesel!

RE: Fuel Cost

not too much difference from our home prices in Ontario. Local station was $1.308 yesterday..that hurts. put in 75 liters, it was almost 100.00-wow..and we get 16 mpg..Dona

RE: RV Vacuums?

I have the central vac, does a good job, except for the CAT hair..i use the cat slicker brush and that helps to loosen it from the carpet. Will need to take something else with us this coming winter..too old to crawl on hands and bad knees with the slicker brush.Dona

RE: Wintering in Naco Az

too cold for me down there in winter, try heading farther west in AZ. They can get a dusting of snow and freezing temps, friends stayed in Tombstone and it snowed. We are near the Colorado River off I-10 towards Quartzsite. It was cooler this past winter but not freezing. Always wamrs up by 8am and stays that way. Of course it did rain 3 times. and there are lots of things to do and day trips..Dona

RE: Gas mileage with your rig alone, and with your fiver?

we have towed both our 2005 30'TT(loaded at 7700lbs) and got 10 towing and 16 not towing. We now have the 5th wheel(double the weight of the TT) and get the same milage. go figure! We usually do 60-65mph. truck is in our signature. The 5th wheel handles much better and smoother than the TT. Dona

RE: awning drop?

we have had the drape for about 2 years. Always have to take it down in a heavy wind storm. I think it would make putting up the awning way too bulky! and then your poles will not clamp together.. We have been in 40mph winds with the drape on-sturdly staked into the ground with 3 de-flappers on each end.(our drape has grommets every 10 inches, even on the ground end. Get the max-deflappers, they work great, but before you attach them to the awning fabric, cut the rubbery shelf liner and put on the fabric first, then clamp and tighten the deflapper, they didn't move at all this past winter in sw arizona..the shelf liner is amazing..Dona

RE: Bedsaver for slider hitches

not an expert here, when we bought our 5th wheel last May,(we have the husky slider hitch) we had to take out the bedliner. Was told the spray on kind was ok, but not the liner we had. The liner is sitting in the front yard, and its for sale, as is our high rise cap..
I'm sure more knowledgeable folks will have a good answer..Dona

RE: All Canadians better buy U.S. dollars

unfortuately for us, no one in Arizona or elsewhere will take the "better" currencies..that would be a plus wouldn't it!
Bruce, sorry we only got to talk for a few minutes in the rain in Auburn, had no trouble crossing back into Canada on april 9th, will leave all the "wrong"food home next time!LOL..hope you two had a great winter..Dona

RE: Yuma RV storage

also check out the covered storage areas in parker Az. They are probably less expensive. Don't know the names of any, have seen them, very nice. Friends have been doing that for a few years. We stay in Brenda and parker is about 40 miles north of us, as you are 80 miles south of us.Dona

RE: Snowbirds - what are we going to do about next year??

Hi Everyone,we also will head back to sw Arizona, they way I figure the costs: one of us could buy a plane ticket from Toronto to Phoenix(just one of us), thats about the cost of diesel for the one way trip. But we stay 5 months, dragging our 38'home with us, along with the cat..we could not fly and rent a motel and a car for the five months for the cost of that ticket..and I can put the snow blower back in the garage and not worry..Life is short, use it while you can..! will see all our friends and the sunny days this coming winter-for sure! RE: Travel Trailers vs. Fifth-Wheels

we get the same diesel mileage pulling our 38' 5er as we did with the 30' TT.10-11 MPG. Hubby says the 5er is so much easier to pull, no sway (and we had all the right equip. with the TT. I also have bad knees, but those 3 little step ups are really nothing. We are very comfy with lots of room in the 5er-3 slides, and a king bed. We have short box truck, and the slider hitch, not a problem. we still pack a few things in the truck bed. I would not give up the 5er for anything. We spend 5 months in Arizona in the winter, lots of storage for the two of us and the 17lb. cat. If I could just get rid of the cat hair!No trouble getting into gas stations(as long as you pick the right one. The book-The Next Exit really helps there. Get a copy if you are travelling in the states, all interstates are covered. You will KNOW the stations you can easily get into, they are written in red. We used the 30' TT for 3 winters, then traded for the 5th wheel. would not go back. Campground set up is quicker and easier also. We also have an ATV, it had traveled in the pick up bed, so this past year we had to ship it to Az with a trucking company. Reasonable cost, and we left it in our shed on our rental lot. If you need more info, pm me, glad to help..Dona

RE: cost of insurance in canada

we have Wayfarer ins here in Ontario. For our 2007 38' 5er, replacement ins for 5 yrs. we pay 1000.00 We had the same company for our 2005 TT and I think it was about 700. We did not go thru our auto ins.Maybe not a great deal, especially reading how much you others are paying! I better do some research..Dona
